Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (10-3)

The Chargers took care of business on Sunday, defeating the struggling Cincinnati Bengals at home, 26-21. That win showed once again that the Chargers have enough to stay competitive despite missing their top rushing weapon in Melvin Gordon. The running back missed another game in Week 14 due to a knee injury, but his absence was mitigated by the performance of Austin Ekeler, who led the team in the Bengals game with 66 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. However, Ekeler sustained a stinger in that game, leaving his status for the upcoming rematch with the Chiefs up in the air. If neither Gordon and Ekeler can’t go in Week 15, Justin Jackson will be promoted into the No. 1 RB role, while quarterback Philip Rivers will have added load in the passing attack. In the first meeting with Kansas City in Week 1, Rivers threw for 424 passing yards and three touchdowns against an interception on 34-of-51 completions, albeit in a 38-28 home loss. Patrick Mahomes lit them up in the previous meeting, but he also didn’t have to deal with Chargers pass rushing beast in Joey Bosa, who’s now healthy and raring to go at the Chiefs’ offensive line.

The Chiefs are 4-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last four road games.

Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (11-2)

The Chiefs continue to have success even without running back Kareem Hunt for good. As long as they have quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs look like they are going to be just fine, as evidenced once again in Kansas City’s 27-24 overtime win at home against the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday. Mahomes racked up 377 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception against the Ravens’ stout defense. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce made huge impact downfield in the Ravens game with 139 and 77 receiving yards, respectively. One area worth monitoring for the Chiefs is their backfield situation. Spencer Ware, who has stepped up in lieu of the dismissed Hunt, sustained a shoulder injury against the Ravens. Should he miss time to heal from his injury, the Chiefs will likely ask Damien Williams to be their No. 1 running back for the meantime.

Kansas City is No. 1 in the NFL in scoring offense with a dizzying output of 36.2 points per game.

The Chiefs are 6-0 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Kansas City wins, 30-27.
