Betting on the Chicago Bears (7-6)
Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has been much-maligned this season, but in Week 14, he managed to silence most of his critics, when he led Chicago to a 31-24 home win over the Dallas Cowboys. Trubisky enjoyed torching Dallas’ leaky pass defense, as he threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns with an interception on 23-of-31 completions. Trubisky is developing a serious rapport with wide receiver Allen Robinson, who had a pair of touchdowns and 48 receiving yards on five catches against the Cowboys. Robinson has scored at least a touchdown in each of the Bears’ last three games and has four in total over that span. Robinson also had a good game in Week 1’s 10-3 home loss to the Packers, as he had seven receptions for 102 receiving yards. Although the Bears lost that game, they managed to sack Aaron Rodgers five times and held him down to only 203 passing yards while keeping the Packers’ run game in check with Aaron Jones and company coming up with only 44 rushing yards on 22 carries.
The Bears are 6-4 straight up (SU) in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (10-3)
The Packers defeated the Washington Redskins last Sunday, 20-15. However, they weren’t able to shake the Redskins off as convincingly as expected of a team that entered Week 14 with a 9-3 SU record. Aaron Rodgers went 18 for 28 for 195 passing yards and a touchdown and had some moments where he looked hesitant, though, the Redskins can really sometimes get it together on defense. Fortunately for the Packers, running back Aaron Jones brought his a-game after a disappointing performance in Week 13’s win over the New York Giants on the road. Jones lit up the Redskins’ run defense for 134 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. He also led the team with 58 receiving yards on six receptions. The Packers will have to keep Rodgers safer this time around in the pocket against the Bears, who sacked Rodgers five times in Week 1. The Packers’ pass rush also had success in getting to Trubisky in that game, though, as Green Bay had five sacks, too.
The Packers are 2-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Green Bay wins 28-21.
