Betting on the Green Bay Packers (12-3)
Even with Aaron Rodgers not playing like the Aaron Rodgers we all know, the Packers managed to pass the test of the Minnesota Vikings on the road in their 23-10 win lasts Monday. Rodgers only completed 26 of 40 passes for 216 passing yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. Fortunately for the Packers, another Aaron stepped up, as running back Aaron Jones terrorized the Vikings’ defense for 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers may be playing below expectations of late, but he is still a dangerous man in the pocket and the Lions know that very well having faced him countless times. Rodgers had 283 passing yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-39 completions in the Packers’ 23-22 home win over the Lions back in Week 6. The Packers’ defense may have an easier time this time around, as the Lions won’t have Matthew Stafford under center. Instead, it’ll be undrafted rookie David Blough directing the offense for Detroit in Week 17.
The Packers are ninth in the NFL with a defense that allows just 19.5 points per game. They are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (3-11-1)
It’s easy to forget when was the last time the Lions won. They have lost all of their past eight outings, including Sunday’s 27-17 road loss to the Denver Broncos. It was just one of those defeats that leave Lions fans throwing their hands in the air. David Blough did his best, but he only managed 117 passing yards and a touchdown on 12-of-24 completions. He was sacked four times for a loss of 22 yards. The Lions have allowed one of the fewest sacks this season, but Blough is being caught often in the pocket, partly because he is still grasping the level of play in the pros. Blough has been sacked 13 sacks in the last five Detroit games. If anything, he gives the Packers some sort of a mystery, as it was Matthew Stafford whom Green Bay faced in Week 6. In any case, the Lions will look for their rushing attack to help the offense. Kerryon Johnson returned to action in Week 16 after missing multiple weeks due to a knee injury and had 42 rushing yards on 10 carries. The Lions are also hoping wide receiver Kenny Golladay will boom. He had 121 receiving yards on five catches against Green Bay.
The Lions are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against the Packers.
Writer’s Prediction
