Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (12-2 Overall / 2-1 Conference)
The Seminoles extended their winning streak to five games by downing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at home on New Year’s eve, 70-58. Playing without their starting guard, MJ Walker, the Seminoles relied on their tenacious defense and the production from their bench to overpower Georgia Tech. Walker was out with a bruised hip, and his status for the Cardinals game can be currently viewed as questionable. Walker is averaging 10.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, thus far this season. The Noles had nine blocks against the Yellow Jackets to go with 11 steals. Florida State’s defense has been among the best since last season, when it was 10th on KenPom in defensive efficiency. This season? They are 17th with just 88.9 points allowed per 100 possessions. They are also allowing just 63.4 points per contest. Florida State is also a solid-scoring team, averaging 76.6 points per game — good for third in the ACC.
The under is 3-1 in the Seminoles’ last four games.
Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (11-2 Overall / 2-0 Conference)
Chris Mack’s Cardinals fought brilliantly from double-digit deficits in the fourth quarter of their Saturday matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, but ultimately lost, 78-70, via overtime. Forward Steven Enoch led the Cardinals with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, but the Cardinals were not able to get the usual offensive production from their best player, Jordan Nwora. The junior forward chipped on only eight points on a salty 2-for-10 shooting performance after totaling 46 points in the previous two games. Louisville shot just 40.3 percent against the Wildcats, which was partly because of the hostile atmosphere in Lexington. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home crowd though this coming Saturday, so expect them to be better on offense even against Florida State’s tough defense. The Cardinals are 11th in the nation in offensive efficiency with 111.9 points per 100 possessions while also averaging 76.2 points per contest. They should get extra scoring chances, as they are the superior rebounding team than Florida State. The Cardinals are getting 40.0 rebounds per game to just 34.2 by the Seminoles.
The Cardinals are 5-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last seven games.
Writer’s Prediction
