The Steelers’ defense proved why it’s one of the best this season in their 28-21 win over the Houston Texans at home in Week 3. After trailing the Texans at the half, the Steelers put together a vicious second-half performance that had them blanking Houston’s offense while coming up with big plays to put points on the board. The Steelers sacked Deshaun Watson five times, intercepted him once, and allowed Houston to come up with just 29 rushing yards on 15 carries. Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers on 23-of-36 completions. Running back James Conner led the Steelers’ backfield with 109 of the team’s season-best 169 rushing yards with a touchdown. The Steelers’ offense must be salivating right now at the prospect of facing Tennessee’s faulty defense that’s allowing 422.3 total yards per game — fourth-worst in the NFL.
The under is 8-2 in the last 10 games of Pittsburgh, which is holding opponents down to just 19.3 points per game.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 3-0
The Titans are undefeated, but it feels like they are not, as they have been doing just enough to keep their seemingly punctured boat afloat. As mentioned earlier, Tennessee’s defense has been a big problem for the team, and if not for kicker Stephen Gostkowski’s legs, they would have not beaten the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday to a tune of a 31-30 score. Gostkowski went 6 for 6 on field-goal attempts, which was nice, but also emblematic of the Titans’ poor third-down conversion rate. The Titans were 3-of-13 on third downs against the Vikings. Hopefully for the Titans, top wide receiver AJ Brown can return to action after missing the last two games with a knee injury. Brown can stretch the field for the Titans just enough for Derrick Henry to have success against the Steelers’ stout run defense. Henry had 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries against Minnesota.
The Titans are 4-3 against the spread in their last seven games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Steelers win, 27-21.
