Betting on the Creighton Bluejays (odds)
Record: 13-5 Overall / 9-4 Conference
Creighton got tripped up by the Georgetown Hoyas last Wednesday in an 86-79 home loss. That loss stopped the Bluejays from extending their win streak to four games, so it’s all about bouncing back for them this coming Saturday. Creighton simply couldn’t stop Georgetown’s offense (50 FG%) and failed to generate enough offense to keep up with the Hoyas, as the Bluejays shot 47.6 percent from the field. Still, that was a good offensive showing for Creighton, which is 22nd in the nation with an average of 80.2 points per game. The Bluejays are also ninth overall with a 57.9 percent shooting from inside the arc and 10th with a 56.7 effective field goal percentage. The key for Creighton is to put up a better effort defensively. The Bluejays shot 48.3 percent from the field and went 14 of 32 from deep in their 89-84 home loss to Marquette last December but allowed the Golden Eagles to shoot 53.6 percent.
The under is 3-1 in Creighton’s last four road games.
Betting on the Marquette Golden Eagles (odds)
Record: 9-9 Overall / 5-7 Conference
Marquette is fresh off a 70-67 home win over the Butler Bulldogs last Tuesday. The Golden Eagles made sure they weren’t going to let their losing skid extend to four games by shooting the lights out against Butler. Marquette shot 61.5 percent from the field, while also outrebounding the Bulldogs, 31-24. Marquette is eighth in the Big East with 70.4 points per game and seventh with 35.6 rebounds per contest in conference play. In the rematch against Creighton, the Golden Eagles hope to get the same balanced scoring from top to bottom of their roster, particularly from the bench. The pair of Justin Lewis and Greg Elliott scored 11 and 14 points off the bench against the Bluejays. Marquette is allowing 69.8 points per game this season. Even more impressive is the team’s ability to limit scoring inside the paint. Marquette opponents are shooting just 42.9 percent on 2-point shots and just 40.1 percent from the field.
Marquette is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games against Creighton.
Writer’s Prediction
Creighton wins, 77-70.
