Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-2
After losing to the Denver Broncos in Week 1 of the preseason, 33-6, the Vikings failed to rebound, as they suffered yet another defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, 12-10. Both those losses were in Minnesota, so the Vikings are hoping the road will be friendlier to them this coming Friday. Minnesota’s offense is struggling in the preseason, but there’s nothing to be overly concerned about the team’s attack, with Kirk Cousins playing minimally thus far. Cousins went 5 of 7 for 23 yards in the Colts game. The defense was a whole lot sharper in Week 2 for the Vikings, though. Minnesota was not able to get a sack, but it had two interceptions off of Sam Ehlinger. The Vikings’ pass defense will look to victimize Kansas City next. The Chiefs threw two picks in Week 2.
Although the Vikings have yet to cover in this preseason, they are 4-3 against the spread in their last seven August games overall.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-0
The Chiefs have now scored back-to-back wins in this preseason after taking down the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, 19-16, and the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, 17-10. Kansas City did just enough on offense in both games, as seen on the scores. The Chiefs probably don’t have to light it up to beat Minnesota. The Vikings’ offense has been incredibly anemic. They have not scored an offensive touchdown so far in the preseason. Patrick Mahomes went 10 of 18 for 78 yards against the Cardinals and though he threw a pick, that’s not the end of the world for the Chiefs who will always be a threat whenever the former MVP is on the field. On defense, Chris Jones has struck again, as he recorded a sack in Week 2. Look out for him to wreak havoc again in Week 3.
The Chiefs are 2-0 against the spread in their last two games in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 20-10.
