Betting on the Tennessee Titans (+5)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Here’s the story of what happened to the Titans in Week 1: they got punched in the mouth by the Arizona Cardinals. The Titans looked helpless on both ends of the field in their 38-13 defeat to Kyler Murray and company at home, but at least they got their wake-up call the earliest possible time in the 2021 NFL season. The Titans got a splashy acquisition in the offseason in Julio Jones, but the veteran wideout only finished with 29 receiving yards on three catches, while AJ Brown only had 49 receiving yards on four receptions, though his night was partly salvaged by a touchdown. The Titans are a much better team than the one that showed up in the Arizona game, and it could be the Seahawks who will be catching the first real brunt of the trio of Jones, Brown, and running back Derrick Henry.
The Titans are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games away from home versus a team with a winning home record.
Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (-5)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
The Seahawks’ defense, particularly the pass rush must be losing sleep this week because of its excitement over the prospect of facing Tennessee’s offensive line that was lit up by Arizona in Week 1. The Titans couldn’t get anything on offense in that game primarily because Ryan Tannehill kept getting crushed in the pocket. Tennessee allowed six sacks for a loss of 56 yards. In Seattle’s 28-16 road win over the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, the team threw Carson Wentz to the ground a total of three times, while also recording 10 quarterback hits. And then there’s Russell Wilson, who looked like he was at his absolute best in the Colts game in which he went 18/23 for 254 passing yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Wilson is one of the last quarterbacks any defensive coordinator would want to plan against after just getting his unit burned in the previous game.
The Seahawks are 5-0 against the spread in their last five September games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Seahawks win, 27-24.
