Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (odds)
Record: 17-4 Overall/6-2 Conference
Kentucky made a massive statement last Saturday when the Wildcats crushed the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, 80-62. The Jayhawks had no answer for Keion Brooks, who scattered 27 points in 29 minutes. Meanwhile, Oscar Tshiebwe double-doubled anew with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Tshiebwe’s just a game-changer for the Wildcats this season. His accuracy from the field and rebounding are making opposing teams tap out. With Tshiebwe, Kentucky has become among the best rebounding teams in the nation – fourth overall with 41.7 boards per game and fourth in offensive rebounding rate (37.3%). And then there’s Kentucky’s efficient offense that has been lethal for the most part of the season. The Wildcats are shooting 36.7 percent from deep in conference play and are tops in the SEC in both effective field goal percentage (54.01 %) and adjusted offensive efficiency (111.9).
Kentucky, which plays the Vanderbilt Commodores at home this Wednesday, has seen the total hit the Under in six of its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (odds)
Record: 14-7 Overall/4-4 Conference
Alabama has been putting its fans on a wild ride this season. Just consider the past couple of games by the Crimson Tide, during which they lost to the Georgia Bulldogs on the road on Jan. 25 before bouncing back and taking down the reigning national champions Baylor Bears at home last Saturday, 87-78. That is the third win this season by Alabama against teams that made the Final Four a season ago. The Crimson Tide have taken down booth the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Houston Cougars in back-to-back fashion last December. Against Baylor, the Crimson Tide shot 59.2 percent from the field and went 22/26 from the free-throw line. Alabama’s backcourt can be too much to handle for opposing teams, with Jahvon Quinerly, JD Davidson, and Jaden Shackleford all a constant threat to shine at the same time.
Alabama, which is scheduled to play the Auburn Tigers on the road this Tuesday, is 9-1 straight up in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Kentucky wins, 82-79.
