Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (+10)
Record: 14-13 Overall/4-10 Conference
Oklahoma has yet to snap its losing skid, which is now up to three games after the Sooners fell prey to the Iowa State Cyclones last Saturday, 75-54. But perhaps seeing the Red Raiders again would be the cure to Oklahoma’s malaise. After all, it was the Red Raiders who Oklahoma last beat. The Sooners defeated Texas Tech at home on Feb. 9 to the tune of a 70-55 score, thanks in large part to Oklahoma’s outside shooting. Oklahoma isn’t really known for its 3-point shooting this season, but the Sooners went 13/28 from deep, mainly because of Umoja Gibson’s hot hands. Gibson scored 30 points against the Red Raiders on the strength of an 8/11 3-point shooting. Nevertheless, it’s what they do inside the arc that drives the Sooners’ offense that is second in the Big 12 in 2-point FG% and third in effective FG%.
The Over is 2-0 in Oklahoma’s last two games overall.
Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (-10)
Record: 21-6 Overall/10-4 Conference
Texas Tech moved in the opposite direction after the loss to the Sooners, as the Red Raiders went on a 3-0 tear in their next three games, beating the likes of the Baylor Bears and the Texa Longhorns in the process. That setback at the hands of the Sooners seemingly made Texas Tech even more dangerous. What’s so dangerous about the Red Raiders is that they can win either with their offense or defense. Most of the time, they do it on both ends of the floor. Texas Tech is third in the conference in adjusted offensive efficiency and No. 1 in adjusted defensive efficiency (second overall in the nation). Gibson went hot in the first meeting between these two teams, but he’s going to be a marked man this time around by Texas Tech’s defense that is allowing just 61.1 points per game and holds opponents to only 31.9 percent shooting from behind the arc.
Texas Tech is 9-1 against the spread in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas Tech wins, 68-59.
