Betting on the Colorado Avalanche (-1.5)

Regular Season Record: 56-19-7

The Avalanche lost for the first time since the second round, so you could say they were due for a defeat. But even in a lopsided loss, Colorado still managed to get off more shots and win the possession battle against the Lightning. The Avs had a Corsi for of 65 to just 37 by Tampa Bay in even-strength situations in Game 3. There’s really no need for the Avs to push the panic button. They still have control of the series and are still winning the advanced metrics battle. Darcy Kuemper had a bad day at the office in Game 3, allowing 5 goals on 17 shots faced, but it’s Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon who probably needs to step up in Game 4 more after barely factoring for the Avs in Game 3. Gabriel Landeskog scored both goals of the Avs in Game 2, and he will check to see if he’s still hot in Game 4.

The Avs are 7-1 in their last 8 road games.

The Over is 4-0 in the Avalanche’s last 4 games.

Betting on the Tampa Bay Lightning (+1.5)

Regular Season Record: 51-23-8

The Lightning have finally struck, as their offense exploded after getting shut out in Game 2. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy also rebounded from a forgettable showing in Game 2, stopping all but two Colorado shots in Game 3. But as mentioned earlier, the Lightning got massively outshot by Colorado, so they need to do a better job of taking care of the puck and preventing turnovers against the incredibly speedy Avs. A concern for Tampa Bay heading into Game 4 is the status of star forward Nikita Kucherov, who skated off the ice late in Game 3 with a lower-body injury. Kucherov had a pair of assists in the Lighting victory, while six Tampa Bay players scored a goal each.

The Lightning are 8-2 in their last 10 games after a win.

Under is 6-0 in Tampa Bay’s last 6 outings after allowing no more than 2 goals in its previous game.

Writer’s Prediction

The Avs win, 4-2.
