Betting on the Baylor Bears (+3)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
The Bears did what they were supposed to do in Week 1 and that’s blow out the Albany Great Danes. Baylor was not too nice to the Great Danes, as Blake Shapen introduced himself as the Bears’ full-time starter in a 69-10 home victory in Waco. Shapen went 17/20 for two touchdowns without an interception. He also added a rushing score. The game merely functioned as a warmup for the Bears, who are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games in September. The Bears’ rushing attack also went berserk against Albany, with Baylor cruising for a total of six rushing touchdowns. They’re not going to be that successful on the ground against BYU, but the Cougars also allowed 124 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground to the South Florida Bulls last week.
Baylor is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games overall.
Betting on the BYU Cougars (-3)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
BYU’s offense was too much to handle for the South Florida Bulls as the Cougars came away with a 50-21 win in Tampa last week. The rushing attack of BYU produced 313 yards. Christopher Brooks and Puka Nacua had 135 and 76 rushing yards, respectively, while also combining for three rushing touchdowns. The Cougars racked up 563 total yards against South Florida even though they were without leading receiver Gunner Romney, who will be a game-time decision just like Nacua, who exited the Bulls game with a lower-body injury. In any case, BYU’s offense looked competitive and should be a considerable threat to Baylor’s defense.
BYU is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games against Big 12 teams. The Cougars are also 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in September.
Writer’s Prediction
BYU wins, 29-26.
