Betting on the Washington Commanders (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 7-5
The Commanders continue to win with Taylor Heinicke. They are now on a three-game win streak after beating the Atlanta Falcons at home Sunday, 19-13. Heinicke was not spectacular, as he passed for just 138 yards on 14/23 completions with an interception, but he still had two touchdown throws. Heinicke isn’t a sexy option at quarterback, but so long as Washington is winning with him, the Commanders will ride with him. But it’s really the team’s defense that is propelling Washington of late. The Commanders have allowed just 23 points in their last two games. On the season, Washington is sixth in the NFL with just 308.0 total yards allowed per contest.
The Commanders are also 6-0-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
Betting on the New York Giants (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 7-4
For the first time this season, the Giants have suffered consecutive losses. After losing to the Detroit Lions at home in Week 11, New York lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving on the road, 28-20. The Giants are 1-3 straight up in their last four games. The team is banged up with key injuries on both offense and defense, but they can still be competitive against Washington. Saquon Barkley is still healthy and Darius Slayton has been popping as a top receiver now for the Giants, who are fifth in the NFL in time of possession percentage. Remember, this is a Giants team that has collected victories against the likes of the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, and Baltimore Ravens.
The Giants are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games after a loss.
Writer’s Prediction
The Giants win, 19-16.
