Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (ODDS)
Regular Season Record: 6-6
The greatness of Tom Brady was on full display once again last Monday, as he led the Buccaneers to a 17-16 win despite the team trailing 10 points with less than four minutes in regulation against the New Orleans Saints. But that’s why Brady is considered by many as the greatest of all time. Whether you believe in that or not, Brady will be a threat to San Francisco. But don’t sleep on Tampa Bay’s defense which is a huge reason why the Buccaneers haven’t completely fallen apart during the shakier stretches of the team’s season. The Buccaneers’ stop unit has allowed just 29 points in the last two games, and they will next get a 49ers offense that will be led by a seventh-round rookie who will be making his first start of the season Sunday.
The Buccaneers are 5-5 against the spread in their last 10 home games.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (ODDS)
Regular Season Record: 8-4
First of all, the 49ers will not have Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 14 or in any of their remaining games this season. Garoppolo suffered a foot injury in Week 13’s 33-17 home loss to the Miami Dolphins and is now on the injured list, paving the way for rookie Brock Purdy to be elevated as San Francisco’s QB1. Purdy is unproven in the NFL, but he did look good when he stepped in for Jimmy G in the Miami game, passing for 210 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 25/37 completions. That’s enough of a confidence-builder for Purdy, who was a star in college for the Iowa State Cyclones. Plus, it’s not like Purdy isn’t going to be surrounded by serious offensive weapons, with Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandin Aiyuk, and George Kittle all healthy.
The 49ers are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The 49ers win, 23-17.
