Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (-4.5)
Regular Season Record: 10-3
The Cowboys stretched their win streak with a 27-23 win over the Houston Texans at home last Sunday. It’s not the most convincing of wins, especially since it came at the expense of the Texans, but Dallas probably needed that one as a wake-up call for them not to take its foot off the pedal. The Cowboys are a high-scoring team that is churning out 27.7 points per game – third in the NFL – and 359.6 total yards per outing – 10th overall. They have the weapons they need to gain big yards and keep drives alive, as evidenced by their 44.97 percent third-down success rate. The Jags, on the other hand, are fourth-worst in the NFL with opponents converting on 45.86 percent of third-down chances.
The Cowboys are 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 games versus a team with a losing record.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+4.5)
Regular Season Record: 5-8
The Jaguars can’t be taken lightly, even though, they are losing more than they’re winning this season. They are just coming off a 36-22 upset victory on the road against the Tennessee Titans in Week 14, which was the Jags’ second win in three games. Trevor Lawrence is starting to show in a more consistent manner why he’s a former No. 1 overall pick. Against the Titans, he threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions against a good Titans defense. Speaking of defense, Jacksonville’s pass rush, which is mostly lifeless this season, can show some activity if it could take advantage of a seemingly banged-up Cowboys offensive line that had just lost starting right tackle Terence Steele to injury.
The Jaguars are 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cowboys win, 27-23.
