Regular Season Record: 7-6-1
Washington got its heart broken last Sunday in a 20-12 home loss to the New York Giants. Taylor Heinicke passed for 249 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 17/29 completions. He also had two lost fumbles, so ball security is something he will have to focus on more going into a showdown against the rampaging Niners. The Commanders also had rookie running back Brian Robinson pick up 89 rushing yards on just 12 carries. Robinson was impressive against the Giants, managing to generate an average of over seven yards per carry. He is starting to come into his own, and who knows if the upcoming 49ers game could be where he breaks out.
The Commanders, who are also allowing just 19.7 points per game this season, are 4-1 against the spreads in their last five road games.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-7.0)
Regular Season Record: 10-4
The 49ers continue to have success with rookie quarterback Brock Purdy running hte show from under center. Purdy went 17/26 for 217 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions in San Francisco’s 21-13 win over Seattle in Week 15 on the road. Life is being made easier for Purdy by the presence of a stellar group of weapons around him, including do-it-all tailback Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle, who had 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns on four catches and five targets in the Seattle game. Defensively, the 49ers have what it takes to stymie Heinicke, who just got sacked three times in Week 15.
The 49ers are 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 games on a Saturday.
Writer’s Prediction
The 49ers win, 23-17.
