Betting on the Houston Cougars (odds)
Record: 17-1 Overall/5-0 Conference
The Cougars of Houston won their eighth game in a row after scoring an 83-77 home win over the South Florida Bulls last Saturday. Houston’s defense was not at its usual sharp form in that game, but its offense was there to save the day for the Cougars. Marcus Sasser, Houston’s No. 1 player, dropped a career-high 31 points on South Florida, while Jamal Shead chipped in a total of 20 points to go with six rebounds to help Houston get its 17th victory of the season. As a team, the Cougars had a 51.7 eFG% – the third-straight game in which they had at least a 50 eFG%. They can continue having success offensively in their next game since Tulane isn’t really feared for its defense. The Green Wave are 269th in the nation with 74.1 points allowed per game and 184th with opponents posting 50.2 eFG%.
Houston is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games.
Betting on the Tulane Green Wave (odds)
Record: 12-5 Overall/5-1 Conference
Tulane is having a nice stretch of its own. The Green Wave are coming off a 77-69 home win over the UCF Knights last Saturday. The Green Wave have yet to score a Quadrant 1 win this season, but they are 2-2 in Quadrant 2 games. If they are to beat Houston, the Green Wave will do it with their high-scoring attack, and now seems to be a perfect chance for them to trip up the Cougars. With Houston’s defense having been dinged over the weekend, the Green Wave will look to test the Cougars with their offense which is ninth in the nation with 82.2 points per game. Tulane is No. 1 in the AAC with 55.6 eFG% and No. 2 in the nation with an 82.1 FT%, per KenPom. The Green Wave have three players averaging at least 14 points this season, thus far.
Tulane is 3-0 against the spread in its last three games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Houston wins, 80-67.
