Betting on the SMU Mustangs (odds)
Record: 7-13 Overall/2-5 Conference
The Mustangs are coming off a 71-69 home loss at the hands of the Wichita State Shockers last Sunday. That was a bummer of a loss for SMU, considering the Mustangs had just ended a four-game losing skid prior to that with a 79-76 road win on Jan. 18th against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. That being said, the Mustangs have been showing more fight in them of late. They have either lost or won by no more than three points in any of their last three outings. Their defense has also been better. On the season, SMU is 217th in the nation with a 105.6 defensive efficiency unadjusted, but over their last 10 outings, the Mustangs have allowed just 101.6 points per 100 possessions.
SMU is 5-4-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Memphis Tigers (odds)
Record: 15-5 Overall/5-2 Conference
Memphis is in a much better state than the Mustangs. The Tigers will arrive in Thursday’s game on a three-game win streak after beating the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road last Sunday, 75-68. That’s a solid win against a quality conference opponent, so the Tigers should have all the confidence and momentum they need to take care of business against the struggling SMU side. The tandem of Kendric Davis and DeAndre Williams could have a field day against SMU’s improving but still lousy defense. Davis is averaging 21.1 points per game while Williams is putting up 16.9 per outing. They combined for 47 points in the win over Cincinnati.

Writer’s Prediction
