Betting on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (TBA)

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs of the FCS can now take comfort from the fact that they have one more win from last season’s campaign after defeating the Jackson State Tigers this past Saturday, 27-20. However, the victory was far from pretty for the Bulldogs, who trailed 17-0 at halftime before sealing the deal against their SWAC rivals.

Once again, Alabama A&M used their powerful running game to their advantage. The team amassed 290 rushing yards in that contest, with running back Jordan Bentley getting 20 carries for 106 yards and dual-threat quarterback De’Angelo Ballard doing even more work with 22 carries for 155 yards of his own.

What’s not working for the Bulldogs, though, is their passing game. Ballard only completed 14 of his 25 passing attempts for 143 yards and a touchdown to go with a pair of interceptions. In addition, no receiver on the team got more than three receptions and 40 receiving yards.

If the four-win Bulldogs can’t balance out their offense, they’ll definitely be in for a mauling against another Tigers team – a more fearsome Auburn squad – this coming Saturday night. And you can indeed expect a rout at that, as all of their wins for the past two seasons have only come from within their own Division I-AA conference.

Betting on the Auburn Tigers (TBA)

The No. 15 Auburn Tigers kissed their CFP hopes goodbye last Saturday after they fell to the Georgia Bulldogs, 13-7. With the loss, the Tigers can no longer have a better record in the SEC West this season against the real Alabama team on the prowl in the Crimson Tide, who they’ll actually face next week in the thrilling regular-season finale that is the Iron Bowl.

Perhaps Saturday’s showdown with Alabama A&M is a good time for Auburn to allow its players to recuperate from their respective injuries. Quarterback Sean White, who’s currently dealing with a bum shoulder, was held to a measly 27-yard day on 6-of-20 passing along with an interception versus Georgia. Overall, the Bulldogs tallied a season-low 164 offensive yards on Saturday.

Clearly, the Tigers sorely miss the services of star running back Kamryn Pettway, who was unavailable for a second-consecutive game with a rather serious leg injury of his own. Pettway won’t likely suit up this coming Saturday, but at least his backup in Kerryon Johnson should still suffice against the Bulldogs ahead.

Johnson managed to gain 99 rushing yards to go with a score on 22 carries against Georgia for his fifth game with 90 rushing yards or more this season along with 10 total rushing TDs.

Even the team’s defense suffered another blow from the injury bug, as top defensive end Byron Cowart will be lost for the season after undergoing an appendectomy. Nevertheless, Auburn’s D, which is ranked eighth this season in FBS at just 15.7 points allowed per contest, should find little to no problem containing an FCS program in Week 12.

In fact, they only gave up a pair of field goals to the other Bulldogs last Saturday, with Georgia’s only touchdown having come from White’s pick-six.

Lastly, Alabama A&M’s chances of winning at Jordan-Hare Stadium are extremely slim to say the least. The Tigers have won four-straight there and are 5-2 at home this season (SU/ATS), with their only losses coming from ranked opponents Clemson and Texas A&M.

Throw in the fact that AAMU is the weakest opponent on Auburn’s regular-season calendar, and the Tigers will more or less be able to feast with a victory after the famine from last Saturday’s defeat.

Writer’s Prediction

The Tigers bounce back big-time with a shutout of the Bulldogs, 43-0.
