Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (+2.5)
Arizona is indebted to David Johnson for keeping its playoff hopes alive. He carried the Cardinals to a crucial, come-from-behind win against the Redskins on Sunday, finishing with 84 rushing and 91 receiving yards, while scoring two touchdowns—with the second being a go-ahead, 25-yard touchdown catch in the opening minutes of the final period.
Johnson now has a total of 15 touchdowns this season, which is just two more away from the franchise record for most scored touchdowns in a single season. The Cardinals, who are now 5-6-1, might see him reach or even break that record in this weekend’s trip to Miami.
The Dolphins defense gave up 496 total yards, including 386 yards passing, in Sunday’s loss to Baltimore.
Still, Arizona can’t let its guard down against Miami, which has only lost once—against Tennessee—throughout four home games this season. Plus, QB Carson Palmer, who threw for 300 yards and three TD passes versus Washington, hasn’t been at his best in hostile environments as eight of his 11 interceptions on the year have come on the road.
The Cards have lost their last three road games (0-3 SU), too.
Betting on the Miami Dolphins (-2.5)
Overflowing with confidence thanks to a six-game run, Miami was expecting to kick off the month of December on a high note by earning its seventh-straight win for the first time since 1985.
But the Ravens prevented them from that reality on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins suffered their ugliest loss of the season—a 38-6 drubbing at the hands of Baltimore. Right from the start, they already dug their own grave, allowing the Ravens to reach the end zone in their first two possessions and stared at a 24-0 halftime deficit.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who had a season-high of three interceptions, gave Miami its first and only touchdown of the game, connecting with DeVante Parker for an 8-yard pass in the first minute of the final quarter. Tannehill was unsuccessful on his two-point conversion pass, though.
This loss is not the end for the Dolphins. They’re still in position to make the playoffs with four games remaining, the next of which is home game against Arizona, a team that’s defeated them in their previous three meetings.
Miami’s won its last four games at home (3-0-1 ATS), though, and Tannehill has five touchdown passes and just one pick during that stretch.
Writer’s Prediction
Miami (-2.5) rebounds, 30-27.
