Betting on the Baylor Bears (+2)
Record: 21-4 Overall/9-3 Conference
Baylor is gaining momentum once again, as the Bears have now won two games in a row following an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks early this month. Since then, the Bears have taken down the Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan, 75-60, and torched the Texas Longhorns last Saturday at home, 80-63. Baylor will look to continue striking while the iron is hot, as it prepares for the rematch against the Red Raiders. The Bears had all its starters in the Texas game scoring at least 10 points, including Adam Flagler, who led his team with 20 points with four 3-pointers. Overall, the Bears shot 50 percent from the floor. In their 65-62 home loss to the Red Raiders in January, the Bears made only 41.1 percent of their shots, but did get more attempts and had more trips to the foul line.
Baylor, eighth in the nation with 117.9 points per 100 possessions, is 2-0 against the spread in its last two games.
Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (-2)
Record: 19-6 Overall/8-4 Conference
The Red Raiders got back on track Saturday, rebounding from a 70-55 road loss to the Oklahoma Sooners by beating the TCU Horned Frogs at home in their most recent outing to the tune of an 82-69 score. Terrence Shannon starred for the Red Raiders with his 20 points off the bench to also send a strong message to Baylor. Shannon was not around in the first meeting between Texas Tech and Baylor, so his presence this Wednesday would likely be an additional headache for the Bears. On the season, Shannon is second on the Red Raiders with 11.6 points per game. He could also make it harder for Baylor to keep in step with Texas Tech’s offense, as the Bears might be missing their leading scorer in LJ Cryer again due to injury. A Cryer absence will be very much welcome for Texas Tech which is third nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency.
Texas Tech is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas Tech wins, 69-66.
