The North Carolina Tar Heels finally vault up to top spot in our best college teams to bet on rankings this week, thanks to a pair of big wins kept their impressive winning streak alive. They’re accompanied by fellow ACC team Maryland, who, despite losing to the conference big boys, still managed to remain perfect against the spread.

1. North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina could not have asked for a better week last week. Two games resulted in two wins: one come-from-behind triumph against bitter rivals Duke, and a 33-point demolition of Wake Forest. Outside of #1 Florida, the Tar Heels can lay legitimate claim to being the hottest team in the country: UNC is a perfect 9-0 SU and ATS in its last 9 games.
2. Fresno State Bulldogs
[sc:NCAAB240banner ]After a horrendous start to conference play, Fresno State has worked its way back to respectability in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs have gone 6-2 SU in their last 8 games and are a perfect 8-0 ATS over that stretch. And if that consistency wasn’t enough, the total has also gone OVER in 7 of those 8 games.
3. Stanford Cardinal
Head coach Johnny Dawkins has Stanford on course for its first trip to the Big Dance since 2008. The Cardinal’s tournament bid has been greatly aided by its last eight games, during which they’ve gone 6-2 SU, including a massive 83-74 win over No. 23 UCLA. That win–led by seven Chasson Randle three balls–avenged the 91-74 blowout the Bruins handed Stanford last month.
4. Maryland Terrapins
If any team earned its place in this week’s rankings, it’s Maryland. Despite going just 2-3 SU in their last five games, all of those losses came against the top 3 in the conference – Virginia, Duke and Syracuse – and against Syracuse, they were one shot away from winning straight up. All told, the ‘Terps are 5-0 ATS and look capable of challenging any team in the ACC tournament.
5. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nebraska is making a very strong push to appear in its first NCAA Tournament since 1998. The Cornhuskers are 5-0 SU/ATS in their last five games, including comfortable home victories against Penn State and Purdue last week. They can further extend their streak with games against Big Ten whipping posts Illinois and Northwestern this week.
