The No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies made an emphatic statement in their bid for the SEC crown with the 71-38 drubbing of Ben Simmons and the LSU Tigers in the conference semifinals on Saturday. The Aggies had a balanced offensive attack as all 11 of their players that saw minutes scored in one way or another. More importantly, TAMU held LSU to just 24.5 percent shooting from the field.

Meanwhile, the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats held off the feisty Georgia Bulldogs, 93-80, in their conference semis bout on Saturday. Kentucky took advantage of their trips to the charity stripe by going a solid 26-for-30 from the line as a team. The Wildcats were led by Jamal Murray (26 points, six rebounds) and Tyler Ulis (25 points, five assists).

The Wildcats will need those two standouts to step up once more if they wish to avoid another upset at the hands of the Aggies, who eked out a 79-77 overtime victory over them in the regular season on February 20.

Writer’s Prediction

Make those back-to-back SEC titles for Kentucky, 77-69.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will look to continue their domination over Western Conference opponents this Sunday. The Cavs have won 10 of their last 11 games over teams from the West thanks to Kyrie Irving’s sizzling form of late, who is averaging 25.8 points on 53.5 percent shooting over his last four outings. The team might also see a huge boost to their lineup that afternoon with the impending return of starting forward Kevin Love (knee).

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Clippers will likely counter with their floor General in Chris Paul to cool down Cleveland’s Irving. Paul has 24 points and a whopping 31 assist over his last two outings, and has been the main catalyst to the team’s current success.

The Clips have three of their last four at Staples, but will still need to be wary of the Cavs, who have won six of their last eight meetings at Staples Center.

Writer’s Prediction

Los Angeles exacts revenge from its loss to the Cavs in January with a sound 106-99 win.
