Kansas City Royals vs. St Louis Cardinals (8:15 PM ET)
LINE: Kansas City Royals (+120) vs. St Louis Cardinals (-130); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines
The Cardinals are on fire right now. They have won four straight games, and have scored 10 or more runs in their last three, two of which were against the Royals. Yadier Molina and Kolten Wong are the most efficient Cardinals in the past week, as they combine for 19-for-48 (.395) with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
The Royals, meanwhile, are losers in eight of their last 10. Remember, though, that they have been a hard-nosed team this year, and they are always able to breakout of a slump. The team will be eyeing Lorenzo Cain and newly-acquired Melky Cabrera for production (aside from the usual guys), since the two are 20-for-45 (.444) in the last seven days.
KC’s Trevor Cahlil (4-3, 4.18 ERA) and St. Lou’s Mike Leake (7-10, 3.34) are the two pitchers matching up.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cards (-130) extend their streak to five with a 6-3 win.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (9:40 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-123) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (+113); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines
The Diamondbacks draw first blood in the three-game series, as they won on Tuesday night, 6-3. It also snapped a two-game skid. Zack Greinke (13-4, 3.10 ERA), who hasn’t earned a loss since June 20th, will step up next to help keep the team on the win column. The Dodgers’ current roster is 37-for-138 (.268) against him all-time.
The MLB-leading Dodgers, on the other hand, are having Alex Wood (13-1, 2.33 ERA) back on the mound to lead the revenge. Wood’s most recent start was last August 3rd against the Atlanta Braves, where he received seven hits but only gave up one run across six innings. He has matched up well against the D-Backs’ current roster for most of his career, as they are only batting a .241 (32-for-133) in their head-to-head matchup.
Despite the defeat, the Dodgers are still ahead in the season series, 6-5.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dodgers (-123) take it, 8-5.
