Betting on the Brown Bears

Brown had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 48-28 blowout loss to Penn. The Bears had no answer for Alex Torgerson who threw three touchdown passes, including a game-changing 79-yard pass to Justin Watson. That triggered a 41-0 Penn run that all but sealed the Bears’ fate in this match.

[sc:NCAA240banner ]They will look to get their season back on track when they take on the reeling Yale Bulldogs this coming Saturday. For the Bears to record the bounce-back win, they will need to do a much better job of protecting the football. Brown committed five turnovers against Penn, four of which resulted into touchdowns.

The onus then is on Marcus Fuller to deliver an efficient performance this time around. Although he did throw for 323 yards and two touchdowns in that loss to Penn, he also had four costly interceptions. That being said, he will be licking his chops at the prospect of facing a Yale defense that’s allowing a whopping 382.9 total yards per game this season, 61st in the FCS.

It’s crucial for the Bears, though, that they get their ground attack going in this game. The Bears managed just 18 rushing yards in their last outing against Penn. That simply won’t do against a Yale defensive line that’s surrendering 139.4 rushing yards per game this season, 30th in the FCS. The Bulldogs allowed 153 rushing yards in their recent loss to Columbia.

Betting on the Yale Bulldogs

Morgan Roberts

Yale’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Bulldogs absorbed a stinging 17-7 defeat to Columbia on Saturday. It was a gut-wrenching setback for the Bulldogs who lost to the Lions at Yale Bowl for the first time since 1996. Yale has now lost three of its last four games.

For the second game running, it was Yale’s offense that was the main culprit in this uninspired performance. In fact, the Bulldogs’ offense was even shakier Saturday than the one that turned the ball over four times against Penn. Yale finished the game with just 120 total yards as it managed to garner just five first downs.

For the Bulldogs to return to winning ways against Brown this coming Saturday, they will need to improve on their play on the offensive end, in particular their running game. They were abysmal with their ground attack in the game against Columbia, registering a mind-boggling minus-14 yards rushing on 21 attempts. They had difficulty solving a Lions defensive line that recorded six sacks for 48 yards.

They will need to be more aggressive with their ground game against a Brown D-line that’s 41st in the FCS in rushing defense, allowing 146.1 yards per game this season. If they can get their rush offense going, that will open things up for quarterback Morgan Roberts. He had a miserable outing the last time out, completing just 12 of 24 passes for 104 yards and an interception.

Writer’s Prediction

Yale wins a tight one, 30-27.
