Betting on the Chattanooga Mocs (TBA)
This Saturday’s outing isn’t just an ordinary one for the Mocs. Aside from the fact that it’ll be the first time this season that they’ll step outside of FCS play, they’re also about to play the No. 1 team in the nation, Alabama, on the road no less.
While the Mocs travelling to Tuscaloosa sounds like a man falling into a pit of lions, this team deserves some respect. Chattanooga is ranked 12th in the FCS and owns a decent offense and an elite defense when looking from an FCS point of view. T
he 12th-ranked Mocs have quarterback Alejandro Bennifield leading the way for their attack that averages 426.5 total yards per contest. Bennifield passed for 177 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions on 19 of 32 completions, albeit in a 36-28 loss to Wofford last week.
Bennifield will definitely need the backfield to complement him this Saturday as Alabama’s killer pass rushers doesn’t seem to have the human quality of mercy programmed into them. That help must come from running Derrick Craine, who paces the team with 772 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in eight games thus far this year.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (TBA)
Alabama saw the No. 2, 3, and, 4 team that entered last weekend all drop their games while the Crimson Tide were blowing away Mississippi State in a 51-3 victory.
It’s not surprising to see the Crimson Tide unleash such decimation given their level of talent and the coaching of Nick Saban. With all due respect to Chattanooga, this matchup is simply a glorified practice game for Alabama, which is preparing for November 26’s Iron Bowl showdown with bitter rival, Auburn. That being said, Saban is a seasoned coach, who knows how to motivate a team even when up against overmatched competition.
Once again, the Crimson Tide will lean on quarterback Jalen Hurts to lead the attack. The dual-threat quarterback has 2,032 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns on the season. He also has 735 rushing yards to go with 11 scores on the ground. Based on those numbers, Hurts should have no problem slicing down Chattanooga’s defense that hasn’t seen someone like Hurts this year.
Defensively, Alabama will parade a stop unit that allows just 12.2 points per game, second fewest in the nation. Alabama leads the FBS with 40.0 sacks so expect the Crimson Tide to cripple the Mocs’ offense from the get go.
