Jake Arrieta has been the toast of the Cubs’ rotation but people shouldn’t overlook Jason Hammel. Hammel walks into tonight’s matchup with the Brewers carrying an unblemished 5-0 record this season to go with a 1.77 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.

In his most recent start, Hammel allowed just one earned run on eight hits across 6.2 innings of action in a 9-4 win over Pittsburgh on May 13. He’s poised to continue his unbeaten streak versus Milwaukee, a team that he’s had a ton of success against in the past. In fact, he owns an 8-0 record and a 2.37 ERA in 11 career starts opposite the Brewers. He went 3-0 with a 3.07 ERA last year against Milwaukee.

Of course, Hammel is also being helped by an ample amount of run support from the Cubs’ stout offense. He’s getting an absurd 7.08 RS/9 thus far this season.

Ben Zobrist has one of the hottest bats on the Cubs’ lineup of late, going 10-for-19 (.526) in the last six games.

The over is 3-0 in Hammel’s last three starts.

Betting on the Milwaukee Brewers (17-22)

Junior Guerra on the mound

Like Hammel, Milwaukee starter Junior Guerra is also looking to emerge unscathed after tonight’s series-ending game against the Cubs.

Guerra improved to 3-0 and lowered his ERA to 4.00 following a 1-0 home win over San Diego on May 13. Guerra tossed for six innings in that game, allowing zero runs and just two hits while striking out four hitters.  Guerra, however, would pitch more confidence if the Brewers would supply him with more runs the next time out.

Ryan Braun will be among those counted on by the Brewers to deliver at the plate. Braun is 8-for-23 (.348) with two homers in his career against Cubs starter Hammel. Scooter Gennett, meanwhile, is 5-for-16 (.313) lifetime in the same matchup.

Guerra is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts at home this season.
