Betting on the Creighton Bluejays (odds)
Record: 17-6 Overall / 13-5 Conference
Creighton saw its game win streak come to an end last Saturday, as the Bluejays lost to the Xavier Musketeers, 77-69, on the road. Prior to that, the Bluejays were riding high on a four-game unbeaten run that included wins over the Marquette Golden Eagles and Villanova, which Creighton upset at home on Feb. 13 to the tune of an 86-70 score. Marcus Zegarowski exploded for 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, while Mitch Ballock provided excellent scoring support with his 20 points on the strength of 6-of-8 shooting from behind the arc. At the same time, Creighton flustered Villanova’s defense with a defense that limited the Bluejays to just 37.5 field goal shooting percentage. Creighton is second in the Big East in adjusted defensive efficiency with just 99.2 points allowed per 100 possessions. The Bluejays have been shooting well from deep, as they have made 39 percent of their 3-point shots in the last three games.
Creighton is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.
Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 15-4 Overall / 10-3 Conference
Just when it looked like the Wildcats had completely moved on from their loss to Creighton after scoring back-to-back wins over the UConn Huskies and the St. John’s Red Storm, Villanova got torpedoed once again by an upset loss, this time to unranked Butler Bulldogs on the road, 73-61, on Sunday. Villanova couldn’t get its offense going against Butler, as the Wildcats shot just 36.9 percent from the floor and was absolutely horrendous from behind the arc, where they went 2 of 27. Even with two losses in four games, counting out Villanova and underestimating the coaching of Jay Wright don’t come across as great ideas. Villanova is still one of the best teams in the nation, let alone in the Big East. So far this season, Villanova is tops in conference play with 114.5 points per 100 possessions. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl will be looking to come away with a much better performance in the rematch against Creighton. In the first meeting with the Bluejays, Robinson-Earl scored just eight points on 3-of-13 shooting. He is currently leading the Wildcats this season with 15.5 points per game.
Villanova is 4-1 against the spread in its last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
