Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (+3.5 Spread / +160 Moneyline)

For the first time in many years, the Cowboys will roll into a season without wide receiver Dez Bryant. And with Bryant no longer around, the Cowboys’ receiving corps are without an identity, not to mention at least a little suspect. Terrance Williams, Tavon Austin, Cole Beasley, and Allen Hurns are all candidates to be the No. 1 receiver, but rookie Michael Gallup may have a say about that. That’s one of the things the Cowboys will try to determine in these preseason games. The Cowboys will also look to ascertain who should take over as Dak Prescott’s top backup. Cooper Rush had that role last year, and is the favorite to get that role again. That said, Mike White and Dalton Strume still have a chance to win the job, depending on how well they will do in the preseason.

Dallas is 3-1 SU in its last four preseason games.

Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-3.5 Spread / -190 Moneyline)

The 49ers’ offense was putrid for the most part of last season, but that changed drastically when Jimmy Garoppolo began to start under center for the team. San Francisco went 5-0 in games in which Garoppolo started for them last season, and now with him as the team’s clear-cut starter, San Francisco has become one of the sexiest dark horse picks in the NFL. He needs better protection, though, as San Francisco allowed the 10th most sacks last season. That’s also why the offensive line is going to be a point of emphasis by San Francisco in the offseason. Former Notre Dame offensive tackle and rookie Mike McGlinchey will be tested in the preseason, which will partly show whether he’s capable of teaming up with veteran Joe Staley on the edges of the protection unit.

The 49ers are 4-1 ATS in their last five preseason outings.

Writer’s Prediction

San Francisco wins, 28-21.
