Reactions to the Blockbuster DeMarcus Cousins Trade
It’s been a day since the fabric of the basketball universe was partially ruptured by the news of DeMarcus Cousins being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. The trade is widely being considered as an addition to the already long list of flat-out stupid moves by the Kings’ front office since Vivek Ranadive took over as the franchise’s owner.
To those who don’t know much about Ranadive, he’s just a dude who once had the idea of bringing the cherry-picking style of play to the NBA. God bless that man’s soul. In exchange, the Kings got a mixed bag of scrubs, some draft picks, some more scrubs, and yeah, scrubs.
Boogie should make an immediate impact on the Pelicans, who easily now have the best frontcourt on the planet with New Orleans somehow managing to get Cousins without sacrificing Anthony Davis. New Orleans is just 2.5 games outside of the last playoff spot in the western conference and it’s not hard to imagine the Pelicans starting to win in bunches with, again, a scary frontcourt like they have now.
The Pelicans are currently priced at +8,000 to win the NBA championship this season. Anthony Tolliver and the Kings, on the other hand, are +100,000 to win an NBA title this year. Sacramento’s odds were at +50,000 earlier this February, when they still have Cousins in the fold.
People are still in the process of wrapping their mind around what just occurred Sunday night. There are just so many fragments in this trade that needs more than a day for the fans, media, and experts to fully come to grips with.
Whether it’s about the reality that Boogie and AD are now teammates, the Kings going full-on Kings, or how much the Kings’ fans could take before showing up in front of Vlade Divac’s home while carrying pitchforks, this trade and its repercussions are definitely exhausting to break down.
