Betting on the Denver Broncos (-3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
After a heated battle between quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock during the preseason, the Denver Broncos have decided to go with the former as their starting QB for Week 1. While Bridgewater isn’t expected to put up gaudy numbers for Denver’s passing game, his accuracy and sound decision-making will be an improvement compared to the turnover-prone Lock. What’s more promising about the Broncos’ chances of winning the season opener is the return of three-time First-Team All-Pro linebacker Von Miller, as well as the addition of sensational young cornerback Patrick Surtain II, who is the team’s top prize selection in this year’s draft. This Broncos defense is ready to put a ton of pressure on New York’s Daniel Jones all day and stuff Saquon Barkley’s running lanes in equal measure.
Denver is 3-2 straight up in its last five meetings against the Giants and 4-1 against the spread in those contests.
Betting on the New York Giants (+3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
A lot of the New York Giants’ potential success this season hinges on the shoulders of Daniel Jones. The former sixth-overall pick out of Duke did not take the next big step towards his development last season, as he now has 35 passing touchdowns to 39 turnovers (22 interceptions, 17 fumbles lost) across his first two seasons in the NFL. on the bright side, Jones will have Saquon Barkley back by his side after a serious knee injury derailed the stud running back’s 2020 campaign short. Considering that the Giants’ defense is still middle-of-the-pack talent-wise, the team will need an immediate impact from the top free-agent wideout this offseason in Kenny Golladay, who’s expected to aid Jones in the passing game. Golladay posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons prior to playing just five games due to injury last season.
New York went just 3-5 at home last season (both straight up and against the spread), with the point total going under in each of the team’s last four homestands.
Writer’s Prediction
The Giants win, 17-14.
