Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – NFL Week 14 – December 9 2018

The Denver Broncos (+12,500 to win Super Bowl 53) are on a three-game win streak, but their morale may be a bit down heading into Week 14’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers after learning that their top wide receiver is done for the season. The 49ers, meanwhile, are eyeing for their third win of the season even if winning games at this point only hurts their chances for the top pick for the 2019 NFL Draft. The sportsbook favors the away team in the matchup by nearly a touchdown (5.5-points).

Betting on the Denver Broncos (6-6)

Just when the Broncos are gaining momentum enough for them to feel encouraged about their chances of eventually making it to the playoffs, the injury bug bit them again – hard. This time, it bit star wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who went down with an apparently serious injury during Wednesday’s practice. Sanders suffered a torn Achilles and has now been placed on the injured reserve, meaning he’s likely done for the rest of the season even if Denver makes it to the playoffs. For now, the Broncos will turn to wideout Courtland Sutton, as their No. 1 guy downfield. Also, Denver is going to put more workload on its overachieving backfield led by breakout star Philip Lindsay. The undrafted rookie Lindsay paces the team with 937 rushing yards and eight rushing scores. He had 157 rushing yards and two touchdowns in last week’s 24-10 road win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Broncos are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games.

Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (2-10)

The only bright side for all the losing the 49ers are getting this season is that they’re on pace to win the No. 1 pick for next year’s draft. The last time they were on the field, the 49ers absorbed a 43-16 beating at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks on the road. San Francisco quarterback Nick Mullens passed for 414 yards on 40-of-48 completions to go with a pair of touchdowns and an interception, which was laudable, considering that the team didn’t have Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin. Both receivers were out in Week 13 for different reasons, and the pair’s status for Week 14 remains up in the air as of this writing. That means rookie wideout Dante Pettis is likely going to be Mullens’ top target again. The two had shown good rapport in the Seattle game, with Pettis going off for 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns on five receptions and seven targets. The 49ers are 22nd in the NFL with an average of 21.2 points per game.

The over is 5-2 in the 49ers’ last seven home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Denver wins, 23-21.
