Betting on the Detroit Lions (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
The Lions have split their first two games of the season but one thing you could say about them so far is that they can score – a lot. After racking up 35 points in Week 1’s loss at home to the Philadelphia Eagles, they took down the Washington Commanders, also at home, last Sunday to the tune of a 36-27 score. And the Lions did that to the Commanders despite missing key players on their offensive line. Center Frank Ragnow, one of the best in his position in the NFL, could be back in Week 3, though, so that should further raise the ceiling of Detroit’s attack. But don’t forget about Aidan Hutchinson, who is injecting life into the Lions’ defense. The rookie just had three sacks versus Washington.
The Lions are 4-0 against the spread in their last four Week 3 games.
Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
The Vikings got terribly beaten on the road Monday by the Philadelphia Eagles, who came away with a 24-7 victory. Kirk Cousins has always struggled to perform in prime time, so the good news for him is that the Detroit game is not going to happen when the moon is up. Plus, the Vikings are returning home where they beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Week 1, 23-7. Justin Jefferson will look to recover from a forgettable outing against the Eagles as well as running back Dalvin Cook, who only had 17 rushing yards in Week 2. Minnesota’s offense still has lethal parts. The team could explode anew on that end of the field Sunday versus the Lions’ leaky defense.
The Vikings are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Vikings win, 37-24.
