Duquesne Dukes vs Dayton Flyers Predictions, Picks, Odds, and NCAA Basketball Betting Preview – February 22 2020

The Duquesne Dukes gave the No. 5 Dayton Flyers a great fight, albeit in a 73-69 home loss late last January. Having proved it can keep in step with the Flyers, Duquesne will look to play better and score a giant upset in Dayton this weekend. The Dukes are +10000 to win the national title, while the Flyers are priced +1100 to win it all this year.

TV Broadcast: ESPN

Betting on the Duquesne Dukes (18-6 Overall / 8-4 Conference)

After taking a stumble in an 83-80 home loss to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, the Dukes rebounded and beat the Fordham Rams on the road last Sunday, 59-54. Unfortunately for their bettors, the Dukes did not cover their spread as 8-point favorites. Duquesne got a big lift from its bench, with Baylee Steele and Tavian Dunn-Martin combining for 28 points and four 3-pointers off the pine. Duquesne’s bench production was also a big reason why the Dukes were able to hang with Dayton in the first meeting, as they won the second-unit scoring by a wide margin, 37-9. Michael Hughes provided 19 points off the bench while Dunn-Martin had 14. Duquesne can also play solid defense, especially around the rim. The Dukes are eighth in the nation in blocks with 5.8 per game and No. 1 in the Atlantic 10 conference with a 15.5 block percentage. They had three blocks in the loss to Dayton and four in the Fordham game.

The under is 7-3 in the Dukes’ last 10 road games.

Betting on the Dayton Flyers (23-2 Overall / 12-0 Conference)

The Flyers continued their hot streak with a 71-63 win over the UMass Minutemen on the road last Saturday. The Flyers, who still have to deal with the VCU Rams this Tuesday before facing Duquesne, relied on their efficient shooting and on their star forward Obi Toppin to take care of business against the Minutemen, They shot 52.9 percent from the field, hit 7 of 13 threes, while Toppin finished with 19 points and seven rebounds in 31 minutes. Toppin is likely NBA bound after this season in the NCAA, and the Dukes pretty much got the same idea when they played against him last January. Toppin scored 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field to go with 10 rebounds. Dayton arguably has the best offense in the nation, as the Flyers are fifth overall with 81.5 points per game and No. 1 with a 59.6 effective field goal percentage.

The Flyers are 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Dayton wins, 77-64.
