Betting on Edmonton Eskimos (4-2)

The Eskimos ripped apart the Toronto Argonauts in their most recent outing, scoring a merciless 26-0 win. Eskimos running back Shaquille Cooper made a mockery of Toronto’s defense, as he rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Quarterback Trevor Harris, meanwhile, passed for 298 yards on 27-of-39 completions. While Harris did not score a passing touchdown, he did not have an interception, and he drove Edmonton’s offense several times into great scoring positions that allowed kicker Sean Whyte to go 4-for-4 on his field-goal attempts on top of his perfect 2-for-2 line on extra-point kicks. Calgary boasts of a much better defense that Toronto’s pathetic stop unit, so expect Cooper’s production to come down. However, Edmonton has plenty of weapons to deal damage. Plus, Harris is the passing leader in the league through seven weeks of the season with 1,931 passing yards so far.

The under is 7-2-1 in the Eskimos’ last 10 road games.

Betting on Calgary Stampeders (4-2)

The Stampeders are in the zone right now. After a 30-23 road loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Calgary beat the Argonauts, 26-16, at home in Week 6 before taking down the Ottawa Redblacks on the road, 17-16, in Week 7. Calgary quarterback Nick Arbuckle flashed his big arm by tossing for 370 passing yards on an efficient 30-of-37 completions. Arbuckle was not able to score a touchdown, but fortunately for the Stampeders, kicker Rene Paredes was up to the challenge, as he drilled five of his six field-goal attempts. The Stampeders are heavily dependent on their passing attack. They are second in the CFL with an average of 283.8 passing yards per game and sixth overall . Defensively, Calgary gives up 22.7 points per game. The team also has a deadly secondary with 14.0 interceptions on the season — the most by any team this season, thus far.

The over is 2-1 in Calgary’s last three home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Calgary wins, 32-26.
