Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (odds)
Record: 14-11 Overall/7-8 Conference
Florida State finally stopped its bleeding when it scored an 81-80 home win against the Clemson Tigers last Tuesday to end a six-game losing skid. That should invigorate Leonard Hamilton’s Seminoles, who likely still need a big win to get considered as an at-large berth on Selection Sunday. The Noles’ already got a huge victory this season when it took down the Duke Blue Devils in a 79-78 overtime win in Tallahassee back in January with plenty of help from their defense. Florida State forced the Blue Devils to commit a total of 15 turnovers to just five by the Seminoles. In conference play this season, Florida State is No. 1 in the ACC with a 7.9 steals percentage and is third in the league in opponents’ non-streal turnover rate (7.8%). The Seminoles have also covered in a lot of games since the last decade when up against Duke.
Florida State is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games versus the Blue Devils, dating back to 2014.
Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (odds)
Record: 22-4 Overall/12-3 Conference
Nobody wants to face a talented Duke team, especially when it’s angry. That’s likely the type of Blue Devils squad the Seminoles are about to deal with in a rematch this Saturday. The Blue Devils want revenge for their loss to Florida State, and they are getting the Seminoles who have looked so shaky of late, despite that group’s recent win versus Clemson. As for Duke, it is 3-0 straight up in its last three games and 8-1 straight up in its last nine – or since that defeat at the hands of the Seminoles. In their last outing, the Blue Devils topped the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at home Tuesday, 76-74. Paolo Banchero, who scored 13 points against Wake Forest, will look to come up big again versus Florida State. He had 20 points and 12 rebounds in the first meeting with the Noles, but also had four turnovers. He can continue dominating on offense while seeing his turnovers go down because of his familiarity now with Florida State.
The Under is 3-1 in Duke’s last four home games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 80-72.
