Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (23-6, 5-2 ACC)
North Carolina can’t be displaced anymore atop the ACC standings but the No. 15 ‘Noles won’t relent on their intention to take down No. 17 Duke later tonight.
A win over Duke would strengthen the ‘Noles credentials for a higher seed in the national tournament. Plus, who doesn’t want to go 2-0 in a season against the Dukies? The Seminoles, who escaped with a 76-74 win over Clemson on Saturday, took down Duke at home on Jan. 10, 88-72.
Florida State got a great game from Xavier Rathan-Mayes in that outing with the junior guard putting up 23 points. Dwayne Bacon, the team’s leading scorer, didn’t reach his tasty average of 16.6 PPG, getting just 13 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the field.
Florida State is one of the most efficient teams on offense this season, ranking 17th overall in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency. The Noles are averaging 84.1 points per game on 47.5 FG%. Florida State likes to find close-range scoring opportunities with 43.5% of their shots coming at the rim.
Florida State is 4-3 ATS in its last seven games.
Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (22-7, 10-6 ACC)
Grayson Allen isn’t suspended but Duke could be without its star third-year guard. Allen didn’t see action in Duke’s 55-50 road loss to Miami on Saturday with an ankle injury and he’s status for tonight’s ball game remains uncertain as of this writing.
Duke has lost its last two games, having lost to Syracuse also on Feb. 22, 78-75, so it could really use a pick-me-up win before closing out the regular season in Chapel Hill. Should Allen be forced to sit again, Duke will be looking for others to step up. Luke Kennard is a constant figure in the Blue Devils’ offense (80.6 PPG) that ranks 32nd in the nation. Kennard paces the team with 19.9 PPG, while Jayson Tatum is right behind him with 16.1.
Kennard and Tatum were limited to just 15 and 8 points, respectively, against Miami, but are bound to be better opposite FSU’s soft defense that allows 71.6 PPG, 156th in Division I ball. The duo combined for 44 points and five threes in the first meeting with the Noles.
Duke is 15-1 SU in its last 16 home games
Writer’s Prediction
Duke (-7) wins, 84-80.
