Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (9-8 Overall / 1-4 Conference)
The Seminoles arrested a three-game losing skid early this week with a 77-68 home win against the Clemson Tigers on Tuesday. Florida State got a boost from their bench against Clemson, though, that’s because leading scorer Mfiondu Kabengele was part of the second unit. Kabengele scored 17 points to go with five rebounds in 25 minutes of action, while David Nichols pumped in 16 points, also off the bench. Florida State is hoping that it could carry over its hot shooting in the Clemson game into the ‘Noles trip to Miami. Florida State sank 10 3-pointers against the Seminoles. However, the Seminoles only went 6-for-26 from behind the arc in their 68-62 win at home on Jan. 9. One key to the Seminoles’ success in that game is their rebounding, as they grabbed 38 rebounds compared to just 31 by the Hurricanes.
The over is 6-3-1 in the Seminoles’ last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Miami Hurricanes (9-8 Overall / 1-4 Conference)
Miami is absorbing losses from almost every corner these days. Pending a meeting with the Syracuse Orange on Thursday, the Hurricanes are 1-4 SU in their past five games, with the lone victory coming from a 76-65 win over the lowly Wake Forest Demon Deacons at home on Jan. 12. Then it was followed by an 85-76 road loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels last Sunday. Although they lost to the Florida State in the first meeting, the Hurricanes can learn something from that loss: just be aggressive. The Hurricanes had nine more free-throw attempts than Florida State in that game, and went 18-for-22. Chris Lykes scored 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field against the Seminoles and dropped 20 (8-for-16 FG) in the Tar Heels game. It’s important to keep track of what Lykes is doing because he’s leading the team with 18.1 points per game. Lykes always gets ample help from his teammates, though. Miami has four players outside of Lyke who are scoring in double figures. As a team, Miami is averaging 76.5 points per game.
The under is 7-3 in the Hurricanes’ last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Florida State wins, 79-73.
