Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (odds)
Record: 17-3Overall/10-10 Conference
Florida State finished the regular season strong, closing out ACC play with three wins in a row, capped by an 89-76 home victory over the NC State Wolfpack last Saturday. Although the Seminoles struggled to find consistency all season long, they at least have some momentum to ride on into the ACC tournament. Moreover, it appears that Florida State is peaking once again at the right time. Before beating the Wolfpack, the Seminoles defeated the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville (64-63) and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (74-70) at home. This is also a team that has won against the Duke Blue Devils (79-78) in Tallahassee last January. As for their matchup against Syracuse, the Seminoles lost to the Orange last December at home (63-60) but avenged that loss with a 76-71 road win on Jan. 15 over Jim Boeheim’s squad.
Florida State, which is averaging 71.5 points per game, is 3-0 against the spread in its last three outings.
Betting on the Syracuse Orange (odds)
Record: 15-16 Overall/9-11 Conference
Unlike Florida State, the Orange are struggling for form lately. They are 0-4 straight up in their last four games, ending conference play with a 75-72 home loss to the Miami Hurricanes last Saturday. Boeheim certainly can’t be happy about Syracuse’s current state, but it must also be said that at least two of their losses during that stretch were against big hitters in Duke and North Carolina. The Seminoles should be an easier customer for Syracuse, which is 32nd in the nation with 76.7 points per game. Syracuse also knows how to take care of the ball. In fact, the Orange are 24th in the nation with just a 13.5 turnover rate. Buddy Boeheim leads Syracuse in scoring with 19.3 points per game, so expect him to at least try to get hot early in this upcoming game versus Florida State. He scored just six points in the first meeting with Florida State but had 18 in the second.
The Over is 4-1 in Syracuse’s last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Syracuse wins, 77-75.
