Betting on the Green Bay Packers (-2)
Regular Season Record: 13-3
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers toyed with the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17 on their way to an easy 37-10 home win Sunday. Green Bay now has an opportunity to close out the regular season on a six-game win streak when it takes on the lowly Lions on the road in Week 18. But with a playoffs spot secured and the top seed in the NFC all locked up, the Packers might kick it back a bit and let Rodgers rest next Sunday. In that case, it’ll be Jordan Love who’ll be taking snaps under center. In any case, the Lions’ defense has proven to be an exploitable unit regardless of who the opposing quarterback is. But if Rodgers plays, that’s definitely bad news for Detroit. Rodgers had 255 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions when he led the Packers to a 35-17 home win over the Lions back in Week 2.
The Packers are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (+2)
Regular Season Record: 2-13-1
Detroit got blasted hard in Week 17 by the Seattle Seahawks on the road, with the Lions losing 51-29. There’s only so much to expect of the Lions’ offense, especially with Tom Boyle starting at quarterback. That being said, Boyle’s presence didn’t stop wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown from lighting it up against the Seahawks, St. Brown went off for 111 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight catches while also adding a rushing score. He is the brightest spot on the Lions’ roster right now, and he could play a huge factor for them next Sunday against Green Bay. Boyle could very well be the season-finale starter for the Lions. Jared Goff missed the Seahawks game with an ankle injury and with a meaningless outing ahead, the Lions might just opt to keep him on the sidelines, no matter the degree of his injury.
The Lions are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers win, 28-19.
