Betting on the Harvard Crimson (4-0)

The Harvard Crimson stretched their unbeaten run to four games with an emphatic 40-3 victory over the Cornell Big Red on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Crimson, who improved their season-record to 4-0. They have beaten their four opponents this season by an average of 34.8 points.

[sc:NCAA240banner ]Providing the impetus for Harvard’s latest victory was quarterback Scott Hosch. He threw three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the Crimson to their 18th-consecutive win. He completed 14 of 30 passes for 244 yards, with touchdown strikes of 47 yards to Ben Braunecker, 19 yards to Anthony Firkser and a 46-yarder to Justice Shelton-Mosely.

To further illustrate Harvard’s dominance through the air, they compiled a total of 250 passing yards against the Big Red on Saturday. The Crimson are 21st in the FCS in passing offense, averaging 274.0 yards per game this season. They will fancy their chances against a Lafayette secondary that’s allowing 224.2 passing yards per game this campaign, 69th in the entire FCS.

Betting on the Lafayette Leopards (1-5)

Drew Reed

Lafayette’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Leopards crashed to their second-consecutive defeat with a humiliating 38-7 loss to Georgetown on Saturday. The Leopards simply had no answer for Georgetown quarterback Kyle Nolan, who passed for a career-high five touchdowns. And it certainly was a disappointing result for the Leopards, who have now lost five of their last six games.

It’s back to the drawing board then for head coach Frank Tavani and the rest of the struggling Leopards. For the team to snap its losing skid against Harvard this coming weekend, it needs quarterback Drew Reed to step up his play. He completed just 22 of 33 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown with one interception in the loss to Georgetown.

He’s also averaging just 186.2 passing yards per game this season, good for 69th in the FCS. Reed will have his hands full against a Harvard secondary that’s allowing just 180.3 yards per game through the air this season, 25th in the entire FCS. Even more frightening is the fact that the Crimson have conceded just three passing touchdowns this year.

Writer’s Prediction

Harvard extends its winning streak to 19 games with a dominant 45-14 victory.
