Betting on the Houston Texans (8-5)
The Texans simply stepped on a landmine in Week 14. After scoring a huge win by defeating the New England Patriots in Week 13, the Texans felt they were on their way to another win in the next game against the lowly Denver Broncos. Instead, they were served with a slice of humble pie, the Broncos handed the Texans a 38-24 loss. Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson could not get quite his rhythm against the Broncos, completing just 28 of 50 pass attempts for 292 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Watson also scored two rushing touchdowns, but all three of his scores happened too late. The Texans may have taken the Broncos lightly, so the loss can be taken as a wakeup call for Houston, which is averaging 24.4 points and 376.0 total yards per game, 11th and ninth in the NFL, respectively.
The over is 2-0 in the Texans’ last two games overall.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (8-5)
Does anyone remember Marcus Mariota? The former Oregon Ducks quarterback is now the forgotten man in Tennessee, thanks to the emergence of veteran Ryan Tannehill under center. Tannehill has elevated the play of the Titans’ offense since taking over the starting duties. The Titans, who are coming off a 42-21 thumping of the Oakland Raiders on the road last Sunday, have averaged 42.0 points over their last three games. That’s the highest in the NFL over that span and very much improved from their season average of 24.5 points. Against the Raiders, Tannehill was a smooth operator in the pocket, throwing for 391 passing yards and three touchdowns with just an interception on 21-of-27 completions. Running back Derrick Henry has also consistently made his presence felt of late. Henry has rushed for at least 103 yards in each of the Titans’ last four games with seven rushing touchdowns over that stretch.
The Titans are 4-0 against the spread (ATS in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
