Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 2 – September 16 2018

The Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans are both coming off losses in Week 1, but one of them is about to get their first win of the season (assuming that it won’t end in a tie) this coming Sunday. Will Houston’s vaunted defense cripple the Titans’ attack? Or will the Titans’ offense, under new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, overcome JJ Watt and company’s vaunted defense?

Betting on the Houston Texans (0-1)

The Texans were the first to realize through first-hand experience that the New England Patriots are still the team to beat this season, as they fell to Bill Belichick’s crew on Sunday, 27-20. It didn’t help Houston that quarterback Deshaun Watson had a bad 2018 debut, as the second-year player went just 17-of-54 for 176 passing yards and a touchdown against an interception.

Watson may get it going, though, against Tennessee, which struggled mightily in containing the Miami Dolphins’ offense last Sunday.

After Kenny Stills burned Tennessee’s secondary, it’s fair to expect that top-tier wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is going to blow up in Nashville. Hopkins had 78 receiving yards on eight catches against New England.

The Texans should also have more success on defense in Week 2. With JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney around, Marcus Mariota or Blaine Gabbert will find life difficult in the pocket.

The Texans are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games in Tennessee.

Betting on the Tennessee Titans (0-1)

The Titans didn’t just lose to Miami on Sunday, 27-20. They also probably just lost Delanie Walker for the rest of the season. The veteran tight end was taken off the field via a cart in the third period after sustaining what looked to be an ankle fracture.  Quarterback Marcus Mariota was also taken out of the game in the same quarter due to an elbow issue and did not return. Before his exit, Mariota had 103 passing yards on 9-of-16 completions with zero touchdowns and interception.

If Mariota is not going to be ready to play against Houston, then the Titans will start Gabbert, who threw for 117 yards (11/22 completions) but also went touchdown-less with an interception.

The Titans’ backfield should also see an increased usage. Dion Lewis dominated the touches among Tennessee running backs against the Dolphins, with 75 rushing yards with a TD on 16 carries.

The Titans are 3-0 ATS in their last three home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Houston wins, 27-23.
