Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+7)
Things are going from bad to worse for the Jacksonville Jaguars as they crashed to their fourth consecutive defeat with a gut-wrenching 26-19 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. This defeat ensures that Jacksonville won’t have a winning record for the ninth consecutive season. The last time the Jaguars finished above .500 was in 2007, when they went 11-5.
It won’t get any easier for them this coming weekend as standing in their way are the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo is 13th in the league in total defense, allowing just 346.0 yards per game this season. The onus then is on quarterback Blake Bortles to step up his game this coming weekend. He completed 22 of 35 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Lions but also threw two costly picks. One of those interceptions resulted in a pick-six, the 10th of Bortles’ career. Turnovers doomed the Jaguars’ chances in this contest as they committed three miscues against Detroit. They are minus-13 in turnover ratio this season.
The good news for Jacksonville fans is that their team finally forced some errors of their own in Week 11. The Jaguars forced two turnovers, which snapped a five-game turnover-less streak that was tied for the longest since the 1970 merger. They will need to bring that same kind of defensive pressure against a Buffalo side that’s dead-last in the NFL in passing offense, averaging a measly 185.7 yards per game through the air this season.
The Jaguars are 2-8 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Buffalo Bills (-7)
The Buffalo Bills finally snapped their three-game losing streak with a heart-stopping 16-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The Bills battled back from a two-point halftime deficit to grab the all-important win and in the process keep their hopes of grabbing their first playoff berth since 1999 alive.
Starring for Buffalo in this critical road win was LeSean McCoy. He ran for 33 yards and a score on five carries. Unfortunately for the Bills, McCoy suffered a thumb injury shortly thereafter and didn’t return to the ballgame. Robert Woods also injured his knee in this contest and didn’t come back as well. With Sammy Watkins already on the injured reserve, Buffalo may head into its final six games without three of its best skill-position players.
To help combat those key losses, the Bills will need Tyrod Taylor to step up this coming weekend. He struggled mightily once again in the win against Cincinnati, completing just 19 of 27 passes for 166 yards and one interception. Taylor didn’t throw a single touchdown pass in this match. He didn’t fare that much better on the ground against the Bengals, totaling just 39 yards on nine carries.
Taylor will need to be at his best against a Jacksonville defense that’s allowing just 322.6 total yards per game this season, seventh-lowest in the NFL. He has thrown for just 1,935 yards and 10 touchdowns through the Bills’ first 10 games this season.
The Bills are 6-4 SU and ATS in their last 10 home games.
