Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (20-6 Overall / 9-4 Conference)
The Jayhawks don’t seem to miss Lagerald Vick at all. Since the hot-shooting guard took an indefinite leave of absence, Kansas has gone 3-0 SU. They beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Kansas State Wildcats, and most recently, the West Virginia Mountaineers. Vick was among the key reasons why the Jayhawks beat Texas Tech earlier this month in Lawrence, 79-63, as he scored 13 points with three 3-pointers on four attempts. Even without Vick, the Jayhawks shot the lights out against West Virginia, making 52.8 percent from the field and 40.0 percent oft their 3-pointers (8-for-20). Kansas is missing its best big men (Udoka Azubuike and Silvio De Sousa) and Vick, but continues to have success, a testament to the coaching talent of Bill Self and the fantastic play of Dedric Lawson. Lawson leads the Jayhawks in scoring with 19.2 per game and rebounds with 10.3 boards per contest.
The Jayhawks, who are averaging 76.9 points per game this season, are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings with Texas Tech.
Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (21-5 Overall / 9-4 Conference)
After the loss to Kansas, the Red Raiders have gone undefeated in their next four games. They will host the rematch with the Jayhawks on the heels of an impressive 86-61 home win over the Baylor Bears last Saturday. Kansas is going to be handful for Texas Tech, but if anything, the Jayhawks are only 2-6 ATS on the road this season, so that’s something that should encourage bettors looking to back the Red Raiders this coming Saturday. Against the Bears, guard Jarrett Culver led Texas Tech with 18 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Texas Tech’s defense is among the best in the nation. They are fifth nationally in scoring defense with just 60.3 points allowed per game. They are tops in the conference in opponents’ turnover percentage (23.2). In the first meeting with Kansas, Texas Tech forced the Jayhawks to cough the ball up 13 times.
At United Supermarkets Arena this season, Texas Tech is 15-1 straight up (SU) and 8-8-1 ATS, going 3-0 ATS in its last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas wins, 69-63.
