Betting on the Missouri Tigers (odds)

Record: 15-8 Overall / 8-8 Conference

Missouri passed its first test in the SEC tournament, as the Tigers barely survived the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday for a 73-70 win. It wasn’t the cleanest of performance by Mizzou, but the Tigers did just enough to hang on and avoid getting upset. Missouri’s next test should be tougher, as Arkansas has become one of the most dangerous teams in the nation. But here’s the thing: Missouri has a win over Arkansas, beating the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, 81-68, back on Jan. 2. The tandem of Jeremiah Tilmon and Xavier Pinson took turns in carrying the load for Mizzou in that game, scoring 25 and 23 points, respectively. Missouri lost to Arkansas in a rematch in Columbia on Feb. 13, 86-81, but it took the Razorbacks to dispose of a Tigers team that didn’t have Tilmon, who had to miss the game because of personal reasons. This time, the Tigers will have both players to challenge Arkansas.

Missouri, which averaged 74.1 points per game in the regular season, is 6-4 against the spread in its last four meetings with Arkansas.

Betting on the Arkansas Razorbacks (odds)

Record: 21-5 Overall / 13-4 Conference

Arkansas has that aura of a team that no team wants to deal with in March Madness. The Razorbacks are on an eight-game win streak, as they punctuated the regular season with an 87-80 home win over the Texas A&m Aggies. A pesky defense has been a huge reason for Arkansas’ surprise run. The Razorbacks have forced opponents to commit 15.3 turnovers during their current unbeaten run and allowed teams to shoot only 40.0 percent from the field. Missouri surely knows all about that. After all, the Tigers have committed a total of 37 turnovers in just two meetings with Arkansas this season, so far. Turnovers have been a source of major headaches for Mizzou this season, as it entered the SEC tourney with an average of 13.6 errors per game, 11th in the conference. Arkansas is also susceptible to turnovers, but the Razorbacks are more efficient on offense than Mizzou, which could spell the difference in this game to the former’s favor.

Arkansas is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Arkansas wins, 75-72.
