Betting on the New Orleans Saints (TBA)
There’d be no Drew Brees in the playoffs so next Sunday’s showdown with Atlanta is the last time we’ll see the quarterback on the field this season.
Brees will look to guide the Saints end the campaign on a three-game win streak with the Saints riding the momentum of back-to-back wins over Arizona (48-41) and Tampa Bay (31-24). Brees passed for 299 yards on 23 of 43 completions with a touchdown and zero interceptions against Tampa Bay but it was Mark Ingram, who did the most damage. Ingram rushed for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 18 carries.
Ingram will look to build on that solid outing when they see the Falcons, against whom he rushed for 77 yards on 15 attempts in a 45-32 loss back in Week 3.
The Saints’ defense, meanwhile, has to device a way to slow down Matt Ryan. The Falcons’ pass protection has been susceptible at times this season, as evidenced by the fact that their offensive line has allowed 36 sacks so that’s one thing New Orleans is definitely looking at.
The Saints have been great bets against the spread when they’re on the road. They are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games away from the Superdome.
Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (TBA)
Atlanta claimed the NFC South title by virtue of the Saints beating Tampa Bay last Saturday. The Falcons have no plans of repaying New Orleans this coming Sunday by playing Brees and company soft, though.
Matt Ryan was cooking again in the Panthers game, throwing for 277 yards (27/33) with two touchdowns and zero INTs. Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman also stood out with the duo putting together 143 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Falcons’ backfield was just too much to handle in the earlier meeting with the Saints and that could still be the case in Week 17, considering that New Orleans allowed Jacquizz Rodgers run circles around them last Saturday.
A healthier Julio Jones could also spell danger for New Orleans, which is just 30th in the league against the pass. In his first game back since Week 13 and after recovering from a turf toe, Jones caught seven passes for 60 yards.
Atlanta is 3-1 ATS in its last four home games against New Orleans.
