New Orleans Saints vs Los Angeles Chargers Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Preseason – August 25 2018

So long as Drew Brees is their quarterback, the New Orleans Saints are going to be serious contenders in their division, at the very least. But a division title is far from the top goal of the Saints, who are priced +1,600 to win Super Bowl 53 in the NFL Futures. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers have the same +1,600 odds to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the 2010 season.

Betting on the New Orleans Saints (1-1 Preseason Record)

After sitting the first two games of the preseason, Saints franchise quarterback Drew Brees is expected to take the field this Saturday in Carson. He returns with probably the team’s backup quarterback situation settled. Tom Savage must have wrestled that role away from Taysom Hill in last week’s 20-15 win at home against the Arizona Cardinals. In that game, Hill shot himself in the foot by throwing two interceptions and zero touchdowns on 11-of-15 pass completions. Savage, meanwhile, went 6 of 7 from the pocket. Apart from Brees, Saints fans will also have to watch out for offseason acquisition and wide receiver Cameron Meredith, who’s in line to make his New Orleans debut against the Chargers after rehabilitating from a knee injury that forced him to miss all of last season with the Chicago Bears.

The Saints are 3-2 ATS in their last five preseason contests.

Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (1-1 Preseason Record)

After taking a 24-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the first game of the preseason, the Chargers rebounded and defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 24-14 last week at home. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn must have been pleased to see his team reduced their four turnovers count in the Cardinals game to only one against the Seahawks. Moreover, their defense remained stout, particularly on the ground. The Chargers allowed just 3.6 rushing yards per carry to the Seahawks a week after letting Arizona run the pigskin for only 2.7. On offense, Geno Smith adds to his case to be the team’s No. 2 quarterback. He went 6 of 8 for 85 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions thrown while also taking off for 14 rushing yards on a pair of carries.

The Chargers are 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 preseason games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction
