Betting on the New York Jets (4-1)
The New York Jets overcame a sluggish start to record a gritty 34-20 victory over the struggling Washington Redskins on Sunday. It was a gutsy performance by the Jets who grabbed their second consecutive win. With the victory, the Jets improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2010.
[sc:NFL240banner ]Leading the way for the Jets in this game was Ryan Fitzpatrick. He played perhaps his strongest game of the season, completing 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He also displayed some of his dual-threat ways, scoring an 18-yard touchdown run. That’s the longest scoring run by a Jets quarterback since Richard Todd in 1980.
Apart from Fitzpatrick, Brandon Marshall and Chris Ivory also contributed largely to the Jets’ comeback victory. Marshall recorded his fourth straight 100-yard receiving game on Sunday, catching seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Ivory, on the other hand, was a beast for the Jets on the ground, rushing for 146 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown.
That will serve New York in good stead ahead of its weekend showdown with New England. The Jets will have their work cut out for them, however, against the Patriots as they have struggled against them of late. New York has lost seven of its last eight games against New England.
For the Jets to reverse the trend this coming Sunday, they will need to find a way to stop the steamrolling Patriots offense. New England is second in the NFL in total offense, averaging 422.4 yards per game this season. That won’t faze the Jets, though, as they have been playing some excellent defense this campaign. They are first in the NFL in total defense, surrendering a measly 269.2 yards per contest.
The Jets are 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four road games.

Betting on the New England Patriots (5-0)
The New England Patriots will head to their showdown with the New York Jets with momentum on their side after trouncing the Indianapolis Colts, 34-27, on Sunday. It was another impressive victory for the defending champions who grabbed their seventh consecutive win against Indianapolis. With the win, the Patriots improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2007.
Key to New England’s hot start has been their phenomenal offense. The Patriots are averaging 36.6 points per game this season, the highest mark in the entire NFL. Just like in their previous four outings, it was Tom Brady who grabbed the headlines for the Patriots against the Colts. He completed 23 of 37 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.
Danny Amendola was Brady’s favorite target in the game against the Colts, catching seven passes for 105 yards. Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman also benefited from Brady’s masterful performance, each recording a touchdown reception. The Patriots already have 11 passing touchdowns this season, sixth-most in the NFL.
It’s important for the Patriots that their receivers step up again this coming Sunday for them to preserve their unbeaten record against the Jets. The Patriots are averaging 331.2 passing yards per game this season, second in the NFL. They will have their work cut out for them, however, against a Jets secondary that is allowing just 186.6 yards per game through the air this season, good for second in the entire NFL.
The Patriots are 9-1 SU and 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Patriots win but the Jets (+9) cover.
