NFL Super Bowl 51 Futures Odds Update – Post-Conference Championship

At long last, the matchup for Super Bowl 51 has been set. The New England Patriots return for their record 9th trip to the Super Bowl after they smashed the Pittsburgh Steelers. They’ll face the Atlanta Falcons, who throttled Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to reach their first Super Bowl since 1999. Let’s take a look at all the lines and odds for the big game released immediately after the conference championship games below.

NFL Super Bowl LI Odds Update

The Spread – Patriots -3

The Pats opened as 3-point favorites over the Falcons on virtually all sportsbooks. This isn’t too surprising given the Pats are the more public team and will be going to the big game for the 7th time in the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era. The Pats seem to always be involved in very close Super Bowls. Their last six all have been decided by four points or fewer.

The Moneyline – Patriots -160; Falcons +140

Obviously, the Pats are also favored on the moneyline. They are currently -160 favorites on TopBet to win a fourth Super Bowl title and the Falcons are +140 underdogs to win. The Falcons shouldn’t mind the underdog tag, though. Since 2008, seven of the last eight Super Bowl underdogs have won the game outright. (The Pats-Seahawks game in 2015 closed as a pick ‘em.)

The Total – 59.5

The Falcons and Patriots were two of the top-3 highest scoring teams during the regular season, and are the two highest scorers by a wide margin in the playoffs, so it’s no surprise the total has been set so high at 59.5. If this total stays as is, it would be the highest in Super Bowl history, beating the 57-point total for the Saints-Colts game in Super Bowl XLIV.
